Customize Lighting and Shadow Appearance

Access Lighting Controls

Open the VanillaExtra Shaders settings menu. Look for sections labeled "Lighting," "Shadows," or "Ambient Light."

Adjust Shadow Settings

Modify shadow-related parameters:

  • Shadow Distance: Controls how far shadows render from your character
  • Shadow Softness: Makes shadow edges sharper or more blended
  • Shadow Intensity: Darkens or lightens shadowed areas

Reducing shadow distance improves performance while maintaining visual quality nearby.

Tune Ambient Lighting

Adjust how much light fills dark areas naturally. Higher ambient light makes caves and interiors brighter without artificial torchlight, while lower values create more dramatic, shadowy environments.

Modify Color Temperature

Some settings allow you to shift lighting warmth—cooler tones for a bluer, more neutral look, or warmer tones for golden, sunset-like lighting throughout the day.

Preview Changes

Move through different environments—caves, forests, and open areas—to see how your lighting adjustments affect the overall atmosphere. Shadows should enhance depth without making areas unplayable.
