Comparing Vanilla Lighting to Shader Lighting

Toggling the Shader On and Off

You can disable the shader temporarily to compare. Use your shader menu or press the designated toggle key (check your controls). This lets you see the difference in real time without reloading your world.

What Changes

Color and Brightness: Vanilla Remake Shaders uses ACES filmic tonemap to make colors appear more vibrant and natural. Bright areas stay bright instead of washing out. The sky appears more saturated, and shadows have more depth.

Lighting Quality: The shader adds directional lighting that follows the sun's position, creating more realistic shadows and highlights on blocks.

Visual Effects: Volumetric light rays, stylized square clouds, and the square sun/moon are shader-only features. Vanilla Minecraft has round sun/moon and no light rays.

Practical Comparison

Toggle the shader while standing in a forest at sunrise. Notice how the shader's rays and enhanced colors create atmosphere that vanilla lacks. Then check a flat plains biome—the difference is more subtle there. This helps you appreciate what the shader adds without overwhelming changes to Minecraft's core look.
