Adjusting Lighting and Shadow Quality for Better Performance
Access Shader Settings
Open the Shader Options menu while in-game by pressing the designated key (usually found in Video Settings > Shaders). Look for lighting and shadow-related sliders.
Reduce Shadow Distance
Lower the shadow render distance slider to decrease the area around your character where shadows are calculated. This is one of the most effective ways to improve frame rate on older hardware. Start by reducing it to medium and test your FPS.
Disable or Lower Shadow Quality
Find shadow quality or shadow resolution settings and set them to low or disable them entirely. USL is designed to maintain visual appeal even with minimal shadows, so this won't drastically hurt appearance.
Adjust Ambient Occlusion
If available, reduce ambient occlusion intensity or disable it. This darkening effect around block crevices is performance-intensive on integrated graphics.
Test and Fine-Tune
After each change, return to your world and observe frame rate for 30 seconds. Make incremental adjustments until you find the balance between visual quality and smooth gameplay that works for your system.
