How to Use Glowing Mobs and Entities as Mobile Light Sources
The Entity Side of Dynamic Lights
Dynamic Lights does not only track items — it also tracks light-emitting entities. Fireballs, glowing squids, blazes, and mobs that are visually glowing will cast light around themselves. This changes how you fight, farm, and explore.
What You Can Do With It
1. Find glowing squids. In dark ocean caves, a glowing squid becomes a moving beacon. Follow the light to locate them, then harvest glow ink sacs.
2. Track fireballs. A ghast or blaze fireball lights up the terrain as it flies, briefly revealing the area it passes through. Use this to spot mobs or terrain in the Nether.
3. Spot mobs carrying light. If a zombie picks up a torch or a skeleton holds a lantern (in modded setups), it glows — making it easy to see in the dark before it sees you.
4. Use blazes as cave markers. In a Nether fortress, a blaze's glow tells you exactly where it is, even around corners.
Strategy Notes
- The light moves with the entity, so a fleeing glowing squid leaves a trail you can follow.
- Killing a glowing entity removes its light instantly — do not rely on it as a permanent marker.
- Combine with a handheld light source so you are never fully in the dark when the entity moves away.
