Decorating Builds With Torches on Slabs

Why Use Slabs for Lighting

Putting torches and lanterns on half slabs lets you light a build without a full block under every light source. This keeps floors flat, paths clean, and ceilings low. It is especially handy for detailed interiors, gardens, and pathways where a full block would break the look.

Practical Build Ideas

  • Line a garden path with slabs and place a torch on each one for even lighting.
  • Use slabs as wall sconce bases and set a lantern on top for a softer glow.
  • Build low ceilings and place torches on slab ledges so they don't clip into the ceiling.
  • Combine modded slabs with torches to match a themed build's palette.

Mixing Torches and Lanterns

Torches give a warm, flickering light and suit rustic builds. Lanterns give a steadier glow and suit more refined or modern styles. Because both work on slabs, you can alternate them along a path or wall for variety without changing the block underneath.

Keeping It Consistent

If you use a resource pack, remember that model-changing packs need the extra override described elsewhere. Texture-only packs work out of the box, so your slab torches will match the rest of your lighting.
