Tool Stats Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on the tool stats tooltip?
The tooltip is enabled by default, so simply hover over any tool in your inventory and the stats appear below the item name. If nothing shows, check that the mod is loaded and that the tooltip hasn't been toggled off in the mod's config.
Why do some tools show no stats at all?
Only items the mod recognizes as tools with relevant attributes will display stats. Items without durability, mining level, or mining speed data simply have nothing to report, so the tooltip stays empty.
How do I change which stats appear in the tooltip?
Open the mod's config file and toggle the individual stat entries on or off. Each stat (durability, mining speed, mining level, enchantability, attack speed) can be shown or hidden independently, and changes apply after reloading.
Can I hide the tooltip while holding a key?
Yes, the mod supports a keybind that hides the stats tooltip while held, which is useful when you want to see the vanilla tooltip only. Check your controls menu for the Tool Stats keybind and rebind it if it conflicts.
Does Tool Stats work with modded tools?
Yes, that's its main purpose. As long as a modded tool exposes standard attributes like durability or mining level, Tool Stats will read and display them, which is why it's popular in large modpacks.
What does the enchantability stat actually mean?
Enchantability reflects how good an item is at receiving enchantments in the enchantment table. Higher enchantability generally means better or more enchantment options, so use it to compare gear before spending levels.
Why does the durability number look different from the vanilla bar?
The tooltip shows the exact remaining durability as a number, while the vanilla bar is only a rough visual estimate. Both reflect the same value, but the number is precise and updates as the tool takes damage.
Can I compare two tools side by side with this mod?
There's no built-in side-by-side view, but you can hover each tool in turn and compare the tooltip values directly. Reading mining level, mining speed, and enchantability this way is the intended workflow before crafting or enchanting.
Will Tool Stats hurt my game's performance?
No, the mod only reads item attributes when a tooltip is rendered, so its performance impact is negligible even in large modpacks. It does not run background calculations or tick-based logic.
Is Tool Stats compatible with other tooltip mods?
It generally works alongside other tooltip mods, though two mods editing the same tooltip lines can occasionally overlap or reorder entries. If lines look wrong, adjust the config order or disable the conflicting stat in one of the mods.
