Customize Camera Settings for Different Photography Styles

Configuring Your Camera Behavior

The camera-obscura.json configuration file controls how your camera renders photos. Edit this file to fine-tune everything from zoom to what gets included in shots.

Key Settings to Adjust

  • Render distance: Controls how far into the world the camera can see. Increase for sweeping landscape shots; decrease for close-up detail work
  • Field of view (FOV): Lower values zoom in (telephoto effect); higher values create wide-angle shots
  • Brightness: Boost this to photograph dark caves or underground builds; reduce it to avoid washed-out daylight photos
  • Entity rendering: Toggle whether mobs, players, and animals appear in photos
  • Consumable item: Change what the camera uses instead of maps (if desired)

Workflow

1. Open camera-obscura.json in a text editor

2. Adjust values for your intended shot

3. Save the file

4. Reload your server or world (depending on setup)

5. Take test photos to verify the new settings

Experiment with different configurations to match your photography goals—architectural documentation, action shots, or atmospheric landscapes all benefit from different settings.
