Applying Patterns to Any Tier

Unlike vanilla shields, every shield variant in this data pack—Copper, Gold, Iron, Diamond, and Netherite—can display banner patterns. This lets you personalize your defense while maintaining the unique properties of each tier.

How to Add Patterns

Craft or obtain a banner with your desired pattern. In a crafting table, place the banner and your shield together. The pattern transfers to the shield, giving it a custom border or design. You can layer multiple patterns by repeating this process with different banners.

Design Strategy

Use patterns to color-code your shields by tier or purpose. A red-and-white pattern on your Iron shield makes it instantly recognizable, while a blue pattern on your Diamond shield helps you grab the right one in combat. This is especially useful if you carry multiple shields.

Combining with Repairs

Your custom patterns survive anvil repairs, so invest time in decorating shields you plan to keep long-term. A beautifully patterned Netherite shield becomes a trophy piece that reflects your progression through the mod.
