Understand How TheShader Changes Lighting and Shadows Throughout the Day
How TheShader Transforms Daylight
TheShader doesn't just add shadows — it fundamentally changes how light behaves:
- Sunrise/Sunset: Light becomes warm and golden, casting long shadows across terrain
- Noon: Shadows are shorter and sharper; colors appear more saturated
- Dusk: Light transitions to cooler tones; shadows lengthen and deepen
- Night: The moon casts subtle shadows; ambient light becomes blue-tinted
Light Bouncing and Realistic Shadows
TheShader includes light bouncing, meaning light reflects off surfaces:
- Sunlight bounces off water and sand, illuminating nearby blocks
- Shadows aren't pure black — they're filled with ambient light from the sky
- Building interiors receive realistic indirect lighting from windows
- Mountains and terrain cast realistic shadows that change with sun position
These effects make the world feel more three-dimensional and alive. Observe how a forest looks different at different times — shadows create depth that vanilla Minecraft lacks. This is TheShader's core purpose: making lighting behave like the real world.
