Customize Rain Sounds for Specific Blocks

Access the Configuration Files

The Sound of Rain Mod stores its audio settings in your client-side config folder. Navigate to .minecraft/config/ and locate the Sound of Rain configuration file. This file controls which blocks trigger which sounds and allows you to adjust audio behavior per material type.

Modify Block Sound Assignments

Open the config file in a text editor. You'll find entries for each supported material—amethyst, foliage, fabric, metals, glass, wood, lava, and water. Each entry maps block types to their corresponding sound effects.

To change which sound plays when rain hits a specific block, edit the sound file path or ID associated with that block. For example, you can reassign wooden planks to use a different audio sample, or add custom blocks to existing material categories.

Apply Your Changes

Save the config file and reload your world. The mod will read your updated settings on the next load. Test by standing under rain and listening to blocks you modified. If a sound doesn't play, verify the file path is correct and the audio file exists in the mod's sound directory.

You can experiment with different material groupings—assign stone to use metal sounds, or make carpet behave like foliage for a unique effect.
