Experience the Full Map Scale and Terrain Variety
Understanding the 1:1 Scale
The Maroon Bells Map is built at true 1:1 scale using real high-resolution LiDAR data. This means every mountain, valley, and ridge matches the actual Maroon Bells Wilderness in Colorado. The scale is massive—walking from one side of the map to the other takes considerable time, just as it would in the real location.
Surveying Different Elevations
Start at the lower elevations near the trailhead and work your way upward. Notice how the landscape changes—from forested areas with denser pine coverage to sparse alpine vegetation near the peaks. The transition zones show realistic ecological progression based on elevation and exposure.
Appreciating the Jagged Peaks
Take time to view the mountains from different angles. The jagged red peaks of Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak are particularly striking when viewed from across valleys or from neighboring ridges. Climb to high vantage points and look across the wilderness to see how the terrain interconnects. The detailed rock formations and natural contours create an immersive, authentic mountain experience that reflects the real-world geography.
