Survive Encounters with Hostile Entities
Entity Types and Behaviors
The Backrooms populates its levels with custom hostile creatures. Each has distinct movement patterns, speeds, and attack ranges. Understanding their behavior is essential to survival.
Survival Tactics
Maintain distance. Most entities have limited range. Keep walls and obstacles between you and threats whenever possible.
Use verticality. Climb to elevated areas or jump to higher platforms. Many creatures struggle with vertical navigation, giving you escape routes.
Hide strategically. Certain rooms contain alcoves, closets, or narrow passages where entities cannot follow. Use these as temporary refuges when cornered.
Move quietly. Some entities respond to player movement or sound. Crouch-walking reduces detection range and gives you time to react.
Know when to run. If an entity spots you, sprinting toward the next level's entrance is often safer than fighting. Your goal is escape, not combat.
Use light tactically. Darkness can hide you, but it also makes navigation dangerous. Balance visibility with concealment based on entity proximity.
Never corner yourself. Always maintain an exit route. Backing into dead ends leaves you trapped with no escape options.
