Debug Modpack Recipes Using Tags
Finding Why Recipes Work or Fail
When a recipe isn't working as expected, tags often explain why:
1. Hold the toggle key and hover over each ingredient in the recipe
2. Note the tags displayed for each item
3. Compare these tags to the recipe's requirements (check the mod's documentation or JEI)
4. If an item is missing an expected tag, it won't match tag-based recipes
Common Debugging Scenarios
Recipe accepts wrong items: An item has a tag you didn't expect. Check if it's intentionally grouped (like all wood logs under minecraft:logs).
Recipe rejects correct items: The item lacks the required tag. This might mean it needs to be added to a datapack or the mod's tag file.
Ore dictionary conflicts: Multiple mods may tag the same item differently. Tags show which groupings are active in your pack.
This visual approach is faster than reading config files and helps you understand your modpack's item ecosystem.
