How to Edit a Mod's Config File by Hand

Finding the config file

Configs managed by SuperMartijn642's Config Lib are written to the config folder inside your Minecraft instance, usually as a .json file named after the mod. Open that file with any plain text editor. Because the library generates the file on its own, you do not need to create it manually — just launch the game once with the mod installed so the defaults are written.

Editing values safely

Inside the file you will see entries grouped by category, each with a value and often a comment describing what it does. Change only the value, keeping the surrounding quotes, brackets, and commas intact. JSON is strict: a missing comma or an extra trailing comma will make the whole file fail to load, and the mod will fall back to defaults.

Applying your changes

Save the file, then reload the config. Many mods expose an in-game reload through their own config screen or a command, which is faster than restarting. If no reload option exists, quit to the main menu and re-enter the world. If your edits seem ignored, the file likely has a syntax error — re-check commas and brackets, or delete the file and let the game regenerate clean defaults.
