How to Configure Structure Essentials for Your World
Finding the Config File
Structure Essentials generates a config file the first time you launch the game with it installed. You'll find it in your config folder inside your Minecraft instance directory. Open it with any plain text editor. If you're running a server, the same file lives in the server's config folder, and changes there affect all players.
Key Settings to Adjust
The config exposes a handful of options that control how the mod behaves:
- Structure spacing: Sets how far apart structures of the same type can generate. Lower values pack structures closer together; higher values spread them out.
- Minimum distance between structures: Prevents different structures from spawning on top of each other. If you're seeing overlapping villages or dungeons, raise this.
- Search timeout: Caps how long a single structure search can run before it's cancelled. This is what stops servers from hanging during
/locateor treasure map lookups. - Search distance limits: Controls how far the game will look when resolving map or locate requests.
After editing, save the file and restart the game or run /reload if your setup supports it. Test with /locate structure minecraft:village_plains to confirm searches still resolve quickly. If a search times out, either raise the timeout or lower the search distance.
