Set Up a Stonecutter Trap for Mobs
Creating a Basic Mob Trap
Stonecutters deal damage to any creature that walks across them, making them useful for automated mob damage systems. Build a simple trap by placing stonecutters in a line or grid pattern on the ground where mobs will travel.
Effective Trap Design
1. Funnel mobs into the area — Use water streams, fall damage, or mob pathfinding to guide creatures onto stonecutter blocks
2. Layer multiple stonecutters — Stack them or place them adjacent to each other so mobs take repeated damage as they cross
3. Combine with other damage sources — Pair stonecutters with suffocation, fall damage, or cacti to finish mobs faster
4. Collect drops safely — Position yourself away from the stonecutters to avoid taking damage while gathering loot
Important Notes
Stonecutters deal only half a heart of damage per contact, so they work best as part of a larger trap system rather than a standalone solution. The damage applies to all mobs equally, including passive mobs, so design your trap location carefully if you want to avoid unintended casualties.
