Stendhal Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I open the Stendhal book editor?
Just open a Book & Quill or a written Book like you normally would — Stendhal replaces the vanilla screen automatically. The extra buttons for importing, exporting, copying, and clearing appear right on that screen.
Where is the unicode picker in the chat?
Open the chat and look for the Stendhal quick access bar of unicode characters next to the input field. Click any character to insert it into your message.
How do I add emojis or unicode to a sign?
Open the sign editing screen and use the unicode picker that Stendhal adds there. Pick a character and it gets inserted into the line you're editing, then save the sign as usual.
How do I put unicode characters in my nametag?
Rename yourself with a Name Tag in an Anvil — Stendhal adds a unicode picker to the anvil screen. Choose the characters you want, apply the name, and your nametag will show them.
Can I copy an entire book instead of retyping it?
Yes. In the book screen Stendhal adds a button to copy the whole book at once, and you can also copy just a single page. Paste it into another book or page to duplicate the content.
How do I clear a page or a whole book in one click?
The book editor has a clear button for the current page and one for the entire book. Use the page clear to wipe just what you're editing, or the book clear to empty everything.
How do I import or export a book or sign to my computer?
Use the import/export buttons on the book or sign screen to save the content to disk or load it back in. This lets you back up books and signs or move them between worlds.
Do unicode characters work on vanilla servers or with other players?
Stendhal is client-side, so anything you type or place is sent as normal text and other players see it if their font supports those characters. The picker and GUI tools only appear for you.
Will Stendhal Mod work with other GUI or chat mods?
It only reworks the vanilla book, sign, anvil, and chat screens, so it can conflict with mods that replace those same screens. If a screen looks wrong, check whether another mod is also editing it.
Does Stendhal affect performance or work on servers?
It's a lightweight client-side mod that only changes GUI screens, so performance impact is minimal. It works on any server since it doesn't add blocks, items, or server-side logic.
