Optimize Your Single-Player World's Lighting Performance

Understand What Changed

This mod rewrites how your game calculates and displays light. The new system is faster and more accurate, especially around moving Create machines. You won't see a settings menu—the optimization happens automatically.

What to Expect

After installing the mod:

  • Large factories with many moving parts run smoother
  • Lighting updates instantly when you place or remove blocks
  • Rotating machines cast correct shadows without visual glitches
  • Your frame rate may improve, especially in complex builds

Building Considerations

You can now build larger Create contraptions without worrying about lighting lag. Areas that previously caused frame drops—like massive rotating shafts or stacked mechanical systems—should feel more responsive.

Preparation Steps

Before loading your world:

1. Remove the Phosphor mod if installed

2. Place the Starlight mod in your mods folder

3. Start the game and load your world

The lighting engine activates immediately. Chunks will recalculate as you explore, so don't be alarmed if distant areas take a moment to display correctly. This is normal and temporary.
