Stop Squids from Suffocating in Blocks

Why Squids Get Stuck

Vanilla squids have a pathfinding bug that causes them to swim into solid blocks and suffocate. This mod prevents that behavior by adjusting how squids navigate their environment and interact with terrain collision.

How the Fix Works

The mod modifies the squid's Y-axis movement vector to prevent them from getting lodged in blocks when on land or near terrain. It also removes checks that were causing squids to stop moving when you're far away, which was contributing to erratic behavior.

Once installed, you should notice:

  • Squids no longer randomly die from suffocation
  • They move more predictably around obstacles
  • They maintain movement even when you're exploring distant areas

What You'll See

Squids will now swim smoothly through water without attempting to phase into nearby blocks. If a squid does end up on land, it will attempt to return to water more reliably instead of getting stuck and taking damage.

No configuration is needed—the fixes apply automatically to all squids in your world.
