How Food Spoilage Works in Spoiled Mod

Spoilage Mechanics

Spoiled Mod makes all food items perish over time. By default, every food item spoils after exactly one in-game day, after which it can no longer be eaten.

The mod tracks spoilage using two internal values. SpoilRate controls how often an item's spoilage level increases, measured in seconds between each increment. SpoilTime sets how many of those increments an item can accumulate before it becomes fully spoiled. Multiplying the two gives the total lifespan of a food item.

Because these values are configurable, food can be made to last longer or shorter depending on your settings. The one-day default is simply the result of the default SpoilRate and SpoilTime values working together.

Preventing Spoilage

To keep food fresh, store it inside a shulker box. Any food placed in a shulker box stops spoiling entirely, so shulker boxes act as your food preservation method. Food left in your inventory, in chests, or dropped on the ground will continue to spoil normally.
