Monitor and Improve Server TPS

Check Current TPS

Use the /tps command in-game to see your server's current ticks per second. Healthy servers maintain 20 TPS. Values below 15 indicate lag that players will notice.

Identify Performance Bottlenecks

Enable detailed timings reports using /timings on, play for a few minutes, then run /timings report. This generates a web link showing which tasks consume the most server time—chunks, entities, plugins, or specific worlds.

Reduce Entity and Chunk Load

In spigot.yml, lower entity-activation-range values so distant mobs don't consume resources. Reduce growth-chunks-per-tick and decay-chunks-per-tick to process fewer chunks per tick. These changes trade responsiveness for stability.

Disable Unnecessary Features

Turn off random-light-updates and disable TAB command completion if not needed. Disable map cursors in item frames. Each disabled feature frees processing power.

Monitor Regularly

Check /tps periodically, especially during peak player hours. If lag returns, run timings again to find new issues. Adjust settings incrementally and test after each change to identify what helps most.
