How to Cast Your First Spell in Spell Engine

Getting a Spell Into Your Hands

Spell Engine itself is a library, so on its own it does not add weapons or spells you can pick up. Spells and the weapons that cast them come from content mods built on top of it (for example spell-focused RPG mods). Install at least one such content mod alongside Spell Engine, then obtain a weapon or spell book from that mod through its normal means (loot, crafting, or trading).

Casting

Hold the spell-casting item in your main hand. Most spells use a charged release: hold the use button to charge, then release to fire. Others are channeled, meaning they keep firing or sustaining while you hold the button. Watch the item's tooltip and the on-screen cast bar to tell which mode a spell uses.

Aim with your crosshair. Depending on the spell's targeting mode, it may fire a projectile, sweep an area around you, fire a beam, or land where you are looking.

Costs and Cooldowns

Casting is not free. Spells can consume hunger (exhaust), runes or other items, durability from the weapon, or simply go on a cooldown timer. If a spell will not fire, check whether you are out of its cost resource or still on cooldown. Let the cast bar finish before releasing, or the spell may fizzle.
