Making a Hardcore Exploration World with Sparse Structures

Set a high spread factor

For a survival world where structures are rare rewards, open config/sparsestructures.json5 and raise spreadFactor well above the default of 2. The higher the number, the farther apart every structure generates, so finding one becomes a real achievement. Save the file with the game closed, then launch.

Plan around the scarcity

Generate a new world so the setting applies from the start. Because structures are now distant, prepare for long journeys: bring plenty of food, blocks, and a way to mark your path, since you may travel far before finding anything. The mod does not change terrain, ores, or trees, so normal survival resources remain available — only the landmarks are sparse.

If the world feels too empty, lower the factor slightly and regenerate; if it still feels too generous, raise it again. Keep testing in fresh worlds until the rarity matches your intended challenge. Once dialed in, commit to that value. This setup suits players who want exploration to feel earned, where every dungeon, village, or ruin is a genuine discovery rather than a common sight, and where the map stays mysterious for much longer.
