Silencing Ambient and Environment Sounds to Improve Focus

Why Ambient Noise Breaks Concentration

Cave ambience, rain, thunder, fire crackling, portal hums, and similar looping environment sounds are common culprits for players who want a quieter game. Because these are looping or frequent events, muting them has a bigger impact on your overall audio experience than muting a one-off sound.

Muting Loops and Weather

Open the Sounds Be Gone config and search for terms like "ambient", "weather", "rain", "thunder", or "fire". These keywords usually surface the relevant sound events grouped together. Disable the ones you do not want. Weather sounds in particular are often split into separate events for rain falling, rain above you, and thunder, so you may need to toggle more than one entry to get full silence during a storm.

For cave and dimension ambience, search the namespace of the dimension or the word "ambient" and disable the mood/atmosphere entries. If you still hear something, it may be a block-driven sound (like a furnace or portal) rather than true ambience — search for that block's name instead.

Keeping Useful Audio

Do not blanket-disable everything. Leave sounds that carry gameplay information, such as mob approach cues or block break feedback, enabled so you do not lose awareness. Test in a controlled area before exploring, and re-enable anything you miss.
