How to Mute a Specific Annoying Sound in Sounds Be Gone

Finding the Sound You Want to Silence

Sounds Be Gone works by letting you toggle individual sound events off, so the first step is identifying which sound event is actually bothering you. Play the game until the sound triggers, then note what caused it — a mob, a block interaction, an ambient effect, or a UI action. Many players are surprised to learn that what they think is one sound is actually several layered events (for example, a mob's idle, hurt, and step sounds are separate entries).

Disabling the Sound

Open the mod's sound configuration screen from the mod list or its keybind/config menu. You will see a searchable list of registered sound events, usually grouped by namespace (the mod or vanilla category they belong to). Type part of the sound's name into the search field to narrow the list — searching by the mob or block name is fastest. Once you find the entry, toggle it to the disabled/muted state. The change applies immediately, so you can close the screen and confirm the sound is gone without restarting.

If you cannot find the exact sound, disable the whole namespace temporarily to confirm you are targeting the right category, then re-enable it and narrow down. Remember that disabling a sound event affects every instance of it everywhere in the world, not just the one spot where it annoyed you.
