How to Make the Gothic Font Easier to Read in Chat and Menus

Why It Can Be Hard to Read

Gothic and medieval fonts use decorative strokes that can blur together at small sizes, especially in chat, tooltips, and the hotbar. If you are struggling, the fix is usually about display settings rather than the pack itself.

Adjusting Your Display

  • Increase your GUI Scale in Options → Video Settings → GUI Scale. A larger scale renders each character with more pixels, making thin strokes clearer.
  • If you play in a small window, maximize it or switch to fullscreen so the interface has more room.
  • Turn off any sharpening or heavy post-processing shaders that add blur, since they can smear fine lettering.

Reducing Visual Clutter

Lower the amount of on-screen text competing for attention. Disable unnecessary HUD elements from other mods, shrink chat opacity so text stands out against the background, and use a darker or plainer chat background. These small changes make the decorative font far more legible during combat or exploration.

When to Switch Back

If you rely on reading long quest text or dense tooltips, consider keeping the pack for menus and signs but toggling it off for heavy reading sessions. You can enable or disable it any time from the Resource Packs menu without restarting.
