Optimize Shadows for Better Visibility in Dark Areas

Open Shader Configuration

Access the Iris shader menu and navigate to Solar Shaders shadow settings. This mod balances shadow depth across the entire game world.

Adjust Shadow Darkness and Range

Solar Shaders provides controls to prevent dark areas from becoming unplayably dim:

  • Shadow intensity: Reduce overly dark shadows while maintaining contrast and depth
  • Shadow distance: Extend or limit how far shadows render from your position
  • Ambient lighting: Increase the baseline light in shadowed regions like caves and forests

Find Your Balance

Navigate to caves, dense forests, and night-time areas to test visibility. The goal is maintaining atmosphere without sacrificing gameplay—you should be able to see mobs and blocks clearly even in dim lighting. Solar Shaders' default presets are already tuned for this balance, but personal preference varies. Adjust incrementally and return to the same location to compare changes directly.
