Using Dropdown Categories to Navigate Sodium Options Faster

What Changed

Vanilla Sodium lists options in a flat scroll. The Sodium Options API adds dropdown support, so related settings are grouped into collapsible sections. Once you know how to use them, you spend far less time scrolling.

Navigating Efficiently

1. Open Sodium's video settings as usual. You'll see category headers instead of one long list.

2. Click a category header to expand or collapse it. Collapsed categories stay collapsed between visits, so you can hide the sections you never touch.

3. Collapse everything except the section you're tuning. This turns a long scroll into a short one and makes it obvious which settings belong together.

4. Use the search or filter field, if the screen provides one, to jump straight to a setting by name instead of hunting through dropdowns.

5. When a mod adds its own page, it appears as a separate entry — its internal groups use the same dropdown behavior, so the same collapse trick applies.

Practical Tips

  • Keep performance-critical sections (those affecting chunk rendering, entity distance, and similar) expanded while you tune, then collapse them once you're happy.
  • If a category won't expand, the owning mod registered it without any options — nothing to show.
  • Resetting a category usually resets only that group, so you can undo one bad change without losing the rest.
