How to Open and Use the Sodium Settings Menu

Sodium replaces Minecraft's built-in video settings with its own screen, so the first thing to learn is where it lives and how to navigate it.

Opening the menu

From the title screen or the in-game pause menu, go to Options → Video Settings. Because Sodium takes over rendering, this screen is now Sodium's own. If you have other mods that add their own video options (like a zoom or shader mod), you may see extra buttons or tabs here — Sodium's core options are grouped under its own pages, often reachable through buttons at the top or bottom of the screen.

What each page controls

  • General: quality toggles like clouds, smooth lighting, and weather effects.
  • Performance: settings that trade visual fidelity for frame rate, such as chunk face culling and entity distance behavior.
  • Advanced: lower-level rendering toggles. Leave these alone unless you are troubleshooting.

Practical tips

Change one setting at a time and watch your FPS counter (enable it in the same screen if available). If a setting makes the world look wrong — missing faces, flickering — revert it. Sodium is designed to keep vanilla visuals, so anything that visibly breaks the look is usually a conflict with another mod rather than a Sodium option you should keep.
