How to Freeze Mobs with Snowballs

Getting Started

Hitting any mob with a thrown snowball will freeze it in place for the configured duration. You do not need a special snowball — the vanilla snowball item works.

1. Craft or gather snowballs (snow blocks in a 2x2 grid, or snowballs from snow layers).

2. Equip snowballs in your hotbar and select them.

3. Aim at the mob you want to freeze.

4. Right-click (or use your throw key) to launch the snowball.

5. On hit, the mob is frozen for the configured freeze time.

What "Frozen" Means

A frozen mob cannot move or attack while the effect lasts. This makes snowballs useful for crowd control, escaping dangerous mobs, or setting up a follow-up hit with a sword or bow. The freeze does not damage the mob by itself — you still need to deal damage separately.

Tips

  • Snowballs are cheap and stackable, so carry a large stack for emergencies.
  • Freeze hostile mobs before they reach you, then finish them with a melee weapon.
  • Works on most mobs, including hostile and passive ones, since the mod applies the effect on snowball hit.
