Avoid Duplicating SnAssets Files in Your Mod
Why Not to Copy Assets
SnAssets Library is designed as a shared resource. Copying its files into your own mod creates unnecessary bloat, wastes storage, and defeats the purpose of having a centralized asset library. Multiple mods using SnAssets will all reference the same files, reducing total modpack size.
Correct Workflow
1. Add SnAssets as a dependency in your mod configuration
2. Reference assets by namespace (snassets:path/to/asset) in your JSON files
3. Never copy sound or particle files into your mod's assets folder
4. Let SnAssets handle loading – your mod only points to what it needs
Benefits
This approach ensures:
- Smaller mod file sizes
- Consistent assets across all mods using the library
- Easier updates (fixes to SnAssets benefit all dependent mods automatically)
- Cleaner modpack installations
Trust the namespace system. If SnAssets is installed, your references will resolve correctly without duplication.
