Using Smooth Swapping with Shift-Click and Hotbar Swap Keys

Smooth Swapping does not add new keybinds — it changes how the existing ones look. Knowing exactly which actions trigger the animation helps you predict where items will fly.

Actions That Animate

  • Shift-click: moving a stack from your inventory into a chest, furnace, or crafting grid, and back again.
  • Hotbar swap keys: the number keys that move a hovered item into a specific hotbar slot, or swap it with the item already there.
  • Quick move from output slots: taking a crafted result or a smelted item out with shift-click.

Each of these sends the item visually from its old slot to its new one instead of teleporting it.

What Does Not Animate

Picking up items off the ground, dropping them, and normal click-to-pick-up-then-place do not use the travel animation, because those are not slot-to-slot moves handled by the mod. If you want the effect, use shift-click or the hotbar swap keys instead of dragging manually.

Practical Tips

When sorting a full chest, shift-click one stack at a time and let each animation finish before starting the next — spamming clicks queues moves and can look messy. On servers, the animation is client-side only, so other players will not see your items sliding around.
