Maximizing Early-Game Resources from Structures
Strategic Looting Order
When starting a new world, prioritize exploring nearby biomes for structures. Camps and farms offer immediate survival resources—food from crops or chests, wood from structures, and basic tools. This can accelerate your early progression without requiring immediate mining.
Resource Types by Structure
Camps typically contain food and basic supplies. Farms provide harvestable crops and seeds for your own farming. Ruins may hold older materials or decorative items. Wells and towers are primarily structural but can be harvested for building blocks. Trader carts occasionally contain useful travel supplies.
Efficient Gathering
Bring a basic tool to harvest structures quickly. Collect chest contents first, then break down the structure itself for additional blocks. Don't overlook the blocks used in construction—they're often useful for early building projects.
Long-term Planning
If you find a structure in a useful location, consider leaving it as-is. It requires no maintenance and provides a ready-made shelter or landmark. Alternatively, harvest it completely and use the materials for your own projects. The choice depends on your building plans and aesthetic preferences.
