Expand Your Farm Beyond the Starter Plot

Preparing Adjacent Land

The starter house includes a small wheat farm, but you'll need more food as you progress. Clear the area immediately adjacent to the existing farm by removing grass blocks and tilling the soil.

Setting Up New Crop Rows

Use a hoe on dirt blocks to create farmland. The existing farm shows you the layout—water needs to be within a few blocks of each row for crops to hydrate and grow. You can extend the current water channel or dig new trenches alongside it.

Choosing Your Crops

Wheat grows quickly and stacks well for trading or feeding animals. Potatoes and carrots provide better nutrition per plant. Beetroot is useful for potion brewing. Plant seeds by right-clicking farmland with the seed item in hand.

Managing Growth

Crops need light to grow, so expand during daylight or near your cabin's lanterns. Bone meal (from skeletons) speeds up growth significantly. Harvest fully mature crops by breaking them—they drop seeds and the crop item, letting you replant immediately.

Keep your farm organized in rows matching the starter plot's style for easy harvesting and a cohesive look.
