Compare SMAA Results and Verify It's Working
Visual Inspection Method
The easiest way to confirm SMAA is active is to look at distant blocks and item edges. Jagged, staircase-like patterns on block borders should appear smoother and less pixelated. Focus on:
- Diagonal lines on roofs or terrain
- Edges of held items in your hand
- Distant trees and structures
- Water and lava surfaces
Toggle Testing
Open your shader options (Shift + O) and toggle SMAA on and off while looking at the same scene. The difference should be visible—edges look cleaner and less aliased with SMAA enabled. If you see no change, verify SMAA is actually turned on in the menu.
Screenshot Comparison
Take two screenshots with SMAA disabled and enabled (F2 to screenshot). Open them side-by-side and zoom in on block edges. Smoothed versions show reduced jaggedness while maintaining sharp textures and original colors.
Lighting and Color Preservation
Confirm that shadows, block colors, and lighting remain unchanged. SMAA should only affect edge smoothness, not the visual style or brightness of your world.
