Create Your First Custom Skybox
Set Up the Project Structure
Start by extracting the SkyboxTemplate into your resource pack folder. The template includes pre-made directories for shaders, textures, and configuration files. Navigate to assets/minecraft/shaders/core/ — this is where your skybox shader files will live.
Edit the Core Shader Files
Open the provided vertex and fragment shader examples. These files control how the sky is rendered. The vertex shader handles positioning, while the fragment shader controls color and appearance.
Modify the fragment shader to change sky colors. Look for the output color variable (typically named fragColor or similar) and adjust the RGB values. Start simple: change the color to a solid tone, then test in-game by pressing F3+S to reload shaders.
Apply Textures
Place your custom skybox texture files in assets/minecraft/textures/. Reference them in your shader code using the texture() function. The template examples show the correct syntax for sampling textures.
Test your changes by creating a new world or using /reload in an existing one. If shaders don't load, check the debug log for syntax errors in your shader files.
