Improve Shadow Quality Without Losing Performance
Access Shadow Settings
In Shader Options, find the shadow quality or shadow mapping section. SimplifyShaderPack offers granular control over shadow detail without forcing high-end hardware demands.
Adjust Shadow Resolution
Shadow resolution determines how crisp shadow edges appear. Higher resolution creates sharper, more defined shadows but costs more performance. Mid-range settings provide noticeable improvement over vanilla while keeping frame rates stable on medium hardware.
Control Shadow Distance
Shadow distance determines how far from your character shadows render. Reducing this distance improves performance significantly while maintaining quality shadows nearby. Distant shadows become less visible anyway, so this is an effective optimization.
Enable Soft Shadows
If available, enable soft shadow filtering to reduce harsh edges and banding. This creates more realistic, naturally-lit environments without requiring extreme resolution values.
Test and Benchmark
Visit areas with complex lighting—dense forests, canyon walls, buildings with multiple light sources—and observe shadow quality and frame rate. Adjust resolution and distance until you find the sweet spot where shadows look good and performance remains smooth.
