How to Create and Use Group Chats to Talk Across the Map

Why Use a Group

Proximity chat only reaches players standing near you. Group chats let you talk to specific players regardless of distance, which is ideal for teams, factions, or coordinating a build across a large world. Group audio is separate from proximity audio, so you can still hear nearby players too.

Creating a Group

Press G to open the group chat interface (or click the group button in the V menu). Type a name into the text field and press the create button next to it. You are now inside that group's interface and will hear anyone else who joins it.

Joining and Leaving

Other players open the same G menu, find your group in the list, and join it. Only players in the same group hear each other. To stop listening, leave the group from the interface or switch to a different one. You can be in one group at a time.

Practical Tips

Use clear, memorable group names so teammates find the right one. If a group is password-protected, share the password out-of-game. Remember that group chat does not replace proximity chat, so a player standing next to you who is not in your group still hears you through proximity.
