Configuring Voice Chat on a Server Panel (Including Aternos)
What the Server Needs
The voice chat plugin runs on the server, but each player still needs the matching client mod. The server component opens a UDP port for voice traffic. If that port is blocked or not allocated, players connect to the game but hear nothing.
Finding the Voice Port
After the plugin loads, check the server console or the plugin's config file for the port it is using. Many panels auto-assign a port; others expect you to set one. Note this number, because players may need it if the client cannot auto-detect it.
Opening the Port on a Panel
On a managed host, go to the network or ports section of your server panel and make sure a UDP port is allocated for voice chat. If the panel only allocates the main game port, add a second allocation and point the plugin config at it. Restart the server after changing ports.
Client-Side Matching
If auto-detection fails, players can manually enter the server address and voice port in their client's voice chat settings. The address should match the server they joined, and the port must match what the server uses. A mismatch is the most common reason voice works for some players and not others.
Verifying
Have two players stand apart, join, and speak. If proximity audio works, the port is open correctly.
