Get Your First Gunpowder Without a Mob Farm

Gather Basic Materials

The fastest way to start crafting gunpowder is to collect materials you already have access to. You'll need coal (from mining or trees), sand (from beaches or deserts), and redstone (from underground mining). These are all obtainable in the early game without specialized farms.

Craft on Your Workbench

Open your crafting table and look for the Small Overworld Recipe—it's the most resource-efficient starter option. Arrange your coal, sand, and redstone according to the recipe layout, and you'll receive gunpowder immediately. If you need more, the Medium Overworld Recipe uses similar materials but yields more output.

Scale Up When Ready

Once you've gathered more resources, try the Large Overworld Recipe for even better yields. If you've found sulfur while mining, the Refined Sulfur Recipe becomes available and produces significantly more gunpowder per craft. This approach lets you progress at your own pace without building complex mob farms or waiting for spawners to accumulate drops.
