Capture Sharp Close-ups with Manual Focus

Setting Up Manual Focus

Close-up photography requires precise focus control. Open your camera viewfinder by pressing Shift or comma, then enable manual focus mode by disabling Auto Focus in the settings (press G).

Adjusting Focus Distance

Hold Shift + Ctrl + Alt and scroll your Mouse Wheel to adjust focus distance. Scroll forward to focus closer to your camera, backward to focus further away. Watch your subject carefully as you adjust—the sharp area will shift in real time.

Using Focus Peaking

Enable Focus Peaking in the camera settings to see highlighted edges on your viewfinder. These bright outlines show exactly which parts of your scene are in sharp focus. This is especially helpful when photographing small details like flowers, mobs, or intricate build details.

Fine-tuning Your Shot

Once your subject is sharp, adjust aperture (Shift + Ctrl + scroll) to control background blur. A wider aperture creates more cinematic blur, isolating your subject. Take your photo with Enter when everything looks crisp and properly framed.
