Navigating Multi-Floor Dungeons Without Getting Lost

Understanding Dungeon Layout

Shifted Chambers dungeons span multiple underground levels connected by staircases and ladder shafts. Rooms are randomly arranged, so each dungeon is unique. The mod connects these rooms with hallways, creating a maze-like structure.

Mapping as You Explore

Step 1: Bring paper and a crafting table, or use an in-game mapping mod if available. Mark your entry point clearly.

Step 2: At each junction, note which direction you came from. Mark dead ends and dangerous rooms on your map.

Step 3: When using stairs or ladders, note which floor you're entering. Label rooms by floor level (Floor 1, Floor 2, etc.).

Step 4: Place torches or colored blocks on one side of hallways as you progress. This creates a visual breadcrumb trail back to safety.

Efficient Exploration

Explore one floor completely before descending. This prevents confusion about which level contains which rooms. If you become disoriented, follow your torch trail backward to a known safe room, then reorient yourself. Always mark trap rooms and dangerous mob rooms so you can avoid or prepare for them on future visits.
