Shield Parry Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I parry a projectile with my shield?
Raise your shield right before the projectile hits you, and if it lands within the parry window after raising, it gets deflected. The window is short by default, so timing matters more than holding the shield up constantly.
Why isn't my shield parrying anything?
You're probably holding the shield up too early or too late, since the parry only works during a brief window right after you raise it. Try raising the shield just as the projectile is about to connect rather than keeping it up the whole time.
Does parrying damage my shield?
No, a successful parry does not consume shield durability. Only a normal block that isn't a parry will damage the shield as usual.
What projectiles can I parry?
Anything recognized as a shield can parry throwables like snowballs, ender pearls, arrows, and fireballs, including blaze and dragon fireballs. You can also still parry fireballs by hitting them with your sword instead of a shield.
How do I get the Rebound enchantment?
Rebound is a treasure enchantment, so it only appears on enchanted books found in loot chests rather than from an enchanting table. Apply the book to your shield at an anvil to use it.
What does the Rebound enchantment actually do?
Rebound extends the parry window, giving you more time to deflect a projectile after raising your shield. Each level adds a percentage bonus to the window, and it goes up to level 5 by default.
Can I change how long the parry window lasts?
Yes, the parry window can be changed in the config file. The Rebound bonus percentage and its maximum level are also configurable there.
Can I parry fireballs with a sword instead of a shield?
Yes, hitting a fireball with your sword still parries it, just like in vanilla. This works alongside the shield parry mechanic, so you have both options available.
Does this mod work with modded shields?
Any item the game recognizes as a shield should be able to parry, so most modded shields are covered. If a specific shield doesn't parry, it likely isn't tagged as a shield by its own mod.
Will this mod cause lag or conflict with other combat mods?
The mod only adds a timing check on shield raises and projectile hits, so performance impact is minimal. Conflicts are rare, but combat mods that heavily rework shields or projectiles may interact oddly, so test them together.
