Troubleshoot Configuration File Errors

Identifying Configuration Problems

When ShatterLib detects an error in your YAML files, check your game's debug log (usually latest.log in the logs folder). ShatterLib logs validation errors with clear messages pointing to the problematic file and line number.

Common YAML Mistakes

Indentation errors: YAML is whitespace-sensitive. Use consistent spacing (typically 2 spaces per level). Mixing tabs and spaces will cause parsing failures.

Syntax issues: Missing colons after keys, improper list formatting with dashes, or unclosed quotes will trigger validation warnings.

Type mismatches: If a setting expects a number but receives text, ShatterLib's data checks will flag it.

Fixing and Validating

Review the error message in your log—it will specify what went wrong. Correct the YAML syntax, save the file, and restart your game. ShatterLib will re-validate on the next load. If errors persist, try simplifying your configuration to isolate the problem, then gradually add complexity back.
