Troubleshoot Configuration Errors and Validation Issues

Recognizing Config Problems

If your game won't start or a mod behaves strangely, your config file may have errors. Shadow Config Mod validates files on startup and logs issues. Check your game's latest log file (usually in .minecraft/logs/) for messages mentioning config problems.

Common Issues and Fixes

Syntax errors (missing commas, brackets, or quotes) — Re-open the file in your text editor and compare against the original format. Each format has strict rules.

Invalid values (numbers outside allowed ranges, wrong data types) — Shadow Config Mod will replace invalid values with defaults. Check the comments in your config file to see what values are acceptable.

Corrupted file — Delete the config file entirely and restart your game. Shadow Config Mod will regenerate it with default settings.

Preventing Future Issues

Always back up your config folder before updating mods. Make one change at a time and test before making more. Use a text editor with syntax highlighting to spot formatting mistakes before saving.
