Recover Broken or Outdated Configuration Files

What Happens When Configs Break

When a mod updates, its configuration file might become outdated or incompatible. Shadow Config Mod automatically detects these issues and attempts to repair them without losing your custom settings.

How Auto-Recovery Works

On game startup, Shadow Config Mod scans all config files and compares them against the mod's current requirements. If mismatches are found:

1. Missing settings are added with default values

2. Obsolete settings are removed

3. Your custom values are preserved where possible

4. A backup of the old file is created

Checking for Issues

If your game crashes due to config problems, check your .minecraft/config/ folder for backup files (often named with timestamps or .bak extensions). These show what was changed during recovery.

If a setting still causes problems after recovery, try deleting the entire config file for that mod and letting Shadow Config Mod regenerate it with fresh defaults. You can then reconfigure your preferences.
