Understand How File Hash Comparison Prevents Duplicate Downloads

What Hash Comparison Does

The mod uses file hashing—a fingerprint of your downloaded resource pack's contents—to verify whether the server's pack is identical to one you already have. If the hashes match, the pack is already loaded and ready.

Why This Prevents Wasted Downloads

1. Identical packs are recognized instantly — even if the server calls it by a different name, the mod knows if the actual files are the same.

2. No re-downloading — the mod never pulls a pack you already possess, saving bandwidth and time.

3. Works across multiple servers — if Server A and Server B use the same resource pack, you only download it once.

What Happens Behind the Scenes

When you connect to a server, the mod calculates a hash of the server's resource pack and compares it to hashes of packs in your local cache. This comparison is nearly instant. If there's a match, Minecraft uses the cached version. If there's no match, the pack downloads normally.

This process is transparent—you won't see hash values or technical details. Just faster loading times.
