ScalableLux Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I know if ScalableLux is actually working?
Check your mod list to confirm it loaded, then compare light update lag in areas like caves or large builds before and after enabling it. If you enabled parallel light updates, you should notice faster chunk lighting during world generation or when placing many light sources.
Do I need to configure ScalableLux or does it work out of the box?
It works out of the box with Starlight-level improvements applied automatically. The only optional setting most players touch is parallel light updates, which you enable separately if you want extra speed.
How do I enable parallel light updates?
Open the mod's config file or in-game config screen and toggle the parallel light updates option on. After enabling it, restart the game or reload so the change takes effect.
Why is my lighting stuck or wrong after installing ScalableLux?
This usually happens when light data from a previous world or another lighting mod conflicts with ScalableLux. Try relogging, then trigger a light update by placing or breaking a block near the affected area, and if it persists, check for conflicting mods.
Is ScalableLux compatible with Starlight?
ScalableLux already includes Starlight's improvements, so you should not run both at the same time. Remove Starlight and let ScalableLux handle lighting on its own.
Will ScalableLux speed up world pre-generation?
Yes, especially with parallel light updates enabled, since lighting is often a bottleneck during pre-generation. Combine it with a chunk pre-generator for the biggest gains.
Does ScalableLux work on servers, or is it client-side only?
It is a server-side performance mod, so it belongs on the server for the lighting improvements to apply. Clients connecting to the server do not need it installed for it to work.
Can ScalableLux cause crashes or world corruption?
It is designed as a drop-in replacement for vanilla lighting and is generally stable, but mixing it with other lighting mods can cause issues. Back up your world before adding or removing any lighting mod.
Why did my FPS not improve after installing ScalableLux?
ScalableLux targets light update performance, not general rendering FPS, so it mainly helps when lighting changes are happening. If you want FPS gains, look at rendering mods instead.
Should I use ScalableLux or Starlight in my modpack?
Choose ScalableLux if you want Starlight's improvements plus extra bug fixes and optional parallel light updates. Choose Starlight only if you specifically need that exact mod for compatibility reasons.
