Adjust Shadow Intensity and Softness

Access Shader Settings

Open the shader options menu by pressing the designated key (usually Right Shift or via the pause menu's graphics settings). Look for the Salicylic Shaders configuration panel.

Modify Shadow Parameters

Locate shadow-related sliders:

  • Shadow Distance: Controls how far shadows render from your character. Increase for dramatic long shadows during sunrise/sunset; decrease to improve performance.
  • Shadow Softness: Adjusts the blur gradient of shadow edges. Higher values create softer, more cinematic transitions; lower values produce sharper, more defined shadows.
  • Shadow Intensity: Controls overall darkness of shadowed areas. Reduce if caves feel too dark during exploration; increase for moodier lighting.

Test Your Changes

Move to different times of day and biomes to see how adjustments affect your world. Shadows behave differently under trees, near water, and in open plains. Stand in partial shade to observe edge softness clearly.

Performance Consideration

If your frame rate drops after increasing shadow distance or softness, reduce these values incrementally. Shadow quality has the largest performance impact in this shader pack.
