How to Reduce or Hide Particles for Better FPS with Rubidium Extra
Particles from explosions, torches, rain, and other mods can tank your framerate in busy areas. Rubidium Extra gives you granular control over every particle category.
Opening the Particle Settings
Go to video settings and find the Rubidium Extra options. Look for the particle section, which splits particles into categories rather than a single slider. You'll typically see groups for things like block break/place effects, ambient particles, weather, and particles added by other mods.
Tuning Each Category
- All particles: There's usually a master toggle to hide everything at once if you just want maximum performance.
- Block and ambient particles: These cover torch smoke, lava pops, and similar world effects. Reducing these helps most in caves and builds with lots of light sources.
- Weather particles: Rain and snow. Disabling these is a huge win during storms.
- Modded particles: Any particle registered by another mod shows up here, so you can silence a specific mod's effects without disabling that mod.
Lower each category step by step rather than zeroing everything at once, so you keep the visual feedback you actually care about. Check your FPS after each change to see what mattered.
